2020 Goals: Q2 Update

Half the year over, half the year to go!

Q2 brought warmer weather to New England, and warmer weather provided a distraction to my goals! Eek.

The longer daylight and nicer weather was a great excuse to get outdoors and see friends. This included walks on the bike path, yard yoga, and deck drinks! It was definitely a welcome change after only seeing each other on Zoom calls.

Back to the goals, let’s see where I’m at.

List of Goals:

  1. Business Goals
    • Have a blog!
    • 2 more fitness certifications
  2. Finance Goals
    • Emergency fund of $3,000
    • Pay off all credit cards
  3. Health Goals
    • Crossfit average 3x per week
    • Lunchtime average gym 2x per week
    • Run 1 mile/week
    • Stretch average 3x per week
  4. Family Goals
    • 1 child-free date night with the hubs monthly
    • 1 family outing monthly
  5. Personal Goals
    • Read
    • Knit

Business Goals

My business goals remain mostly unchanged.

  1. Launch blog by the end of January 2020.

Accomplished:

  • Pick a paid host – Bluehost!
  • Establish a “niche” – Lifestyle!
  • Share with at least 2 friends to increase exposure – despite my insecurities I have actually shared this with 5 friends!

Missed the Timeframe & Outstanding:

  1. Establish an email list for the blog and have it functional by March.
  2. Create at least 1 blog post a month – This makes 5, so 1 post behind.
  3. Have at least 1 blog post for each category by May – missed May, but we can shoot for the end of the year still!
  4. Obtain 2 new fitness certifications – Will not be accomplished.
    • Unfortunately with gyms shutting down through mid-June in my state and knowing I wasn’t returning to the office for the year and therefore not returning to my work gym for the year, I decided to forgo this goal for now. I will re-consider for 2021.

I’m not entirely sure what happened here tbh… But I’m going to blame warmer weather and spending more time outside with friends. Lots of deck drinks were had! Regardless, I need to make more time for my blog and re-focus.

Finance Goals

We are accomplishing our finance goals!

  1. Have $3,000 in accessible Savings by February 2020
    • Accomplished: February 5, 2020!

  1. Pay off all credit cards by year-end
    • Ongoing/Outstanding: current balance is $6,000. Not much improvement since Q1, but some improvement is better than none.

Health Goals

In Q2 I was able to make fitness more of a priority once the dust settled from the adjustment of working from home full-time. It was definitely an improvement in this area!

Goals:

  1. Crossfit: average 3x per week
  2. Lunchtime gym: average 2x per week
  3. Run: 1 mile per week
  4. Stretch: average 3x per week

If you’re into maths like me then:
3x a week on average equates to at least 156/year, 39/quarter, and 13/month.
2x a week on average equates to at least 104/year, 26/quarter, and 8-9/month.

Outcome:

  1. Crossfit: 58x
  2. Lunchtime gym: 29x
  3. Run: 28.93 miles
  4. Stretch: 67x

I was so naive in Q1 thinking things would reopen! Ha. As it turns out we are not heading back to the office until at least fiscal year 2022! And even then we will not be returning full-time in the office.

My lunchtime gym stats will be at a standstill for the remainder of the year unfortunately.

Crossfit is picking up and I am only behind by 20, hoping to pick this up in the 3rd and 4th quarter of the year.

Running went super well and I’m over my goal by 2.93 miles! This is awesome for me and I even had some really good runs where I was able to go for 2 miles straight without pausing to walk.

Stretching I am behind by 11 sessions. Like crossfit, I hope to pick this up in the 3rd and 4th quarter as well!

Family Goals

This is going better than I anticipated since the end of March!

We finagled 3 child-free dates for the quarter

May: Tamworth Distillery with my BIL and his girlfriend. It was outside and seating was along the river.

May: River day. My husband’s parents offered to watch Faye while we brought some drinks down to the Swift River to swim and catch some sun on the rocks! It was amazing!

Don’t worry, we follow the nature rule of “carry-in, carry-out” 😉

June: We went to one of our favorite restaurants in town, Trattoria Della Nonna. Their patio was open, nicely set up, and safe. It was delicious, as always! And we even were able to sneak over to another restaurant on the way home for a nightcap 😉

Total for the year: 5

Family outings:

May: We all went to the outdoor beer garden at Tuckerman’s Brewery in Conway, NH. We also had a family lake day at Lake Chocorua which was super fun! My SIL and her family were there and it was a great day with all the cousins in the lake.

June: Beach days were our big family outing weekly. We would head down to my parent’s cottage in Bourne, MA and take Faye in the ocean and play in the sand, it was something to look forward to for sure!

Total for the year: 6

Places started to re-open towards the end of Q2, which was amazing! It was great to make plans.

Personal Goals

I definitely had more time for myself being home almost 100%, but somehow I made time for other things and not these goals in particular. Oops!

Accomplished and On Track
Book reading

Outcome: 2 books read in January! No change :/

  • “Scrappy Little Nobody” by Anna Kendrick
    • This book was such a fun read, I love Anna Kendrick, she makes me happy
  • “I’m Thinking of Ending Things” by Iain Reid
    • Such a good psychological thriller, I think I read this in under a week!

Missed the Timeframe & Outstanding:
Crafting

  • Finish 2 started knitting projects 1 by January 31, 2020 and 1 by February 28, 2020.
  • Stretch goal: knit 3 baby blankets. One of my SILs is pregnant and 2 of my friends are. That’s 3 preggos! 2 are due in June and one is due in May. Obviously my SIL takes priority and she is one of the 2 due in June.
  • Super stretch goal: knit an adult sized blanket for my SIL (my husband’s sister) to gift her at Christmas.

The book my friend gave me is hot and cold for me. I hope to wrap it up soon. Being a fast reader, I might be able to reach this personal goal. Fingers crossed!

The knitting goal has gone out the window (insert laughing/crying emoji, followed by sobbing emoji)… I am just hoping to finish one started project before the end of the year… eye roll…

The halfway point! It’s now summer here in New England so it is very welcome after being cooped up for a bit of Q2.

What else did I do during Q2 to distract from my goals? Well, being home damn near all day everyday, I began to become very aware how un-decorated the house was. So, we decorated. The den, or parlor if you prefer, is now functional as another cozier sitting room with curtains, a coffee table, side tables, a console, and a tv. It was geared in design to accommodate a playroom for Faye and any future kiddos. We also finally extended the hardwood floors into our great room, which looks fantastic. Unfortunately, decorating also costs money which clearly also impacted the finance goals, womp womp.

Let’s see what Q3 brings! I am hopeful I can make up any lack in my goals, especially my fitness goals!
