2020 Goals: Q3 Update

Q3 is a wrap and we are entering into the most basic season in New England: Fall!

The summer was super enjoyable and we are very fortunate to have parents who have second homes to visit.

Back to the goals, let’s see where I’m at.

List of Goals:

  1. Business Goals
    • Have a blog!
    • 2 more fitness certifications
  2. Finance Goals
    • Emergency fund of $3,000
    • Pay off all credit cards
  3. Health Goals
    • Crossfit average 3x per week
    • Lunchtime average gym 2x per week
    • Run 1 mile/week
    • Stretch average 3x per week
  4. Family Goals
    • 1 child-free date night with the hubs monthly
    • 1 family outing monthly
  5. Personal Goals
    • Read
    • Knit

Business Goals

My business goals remain mostly unchanged.

  1. Launch blog by the end of January 2020.

Accomplished

  • Pick a paid host – Bluehost!
  • Establish a “niche” – Lifestyle!
  • Share with at least 2 friends to increase exposure – despite my insecurities I have actually shared this with 5 friends!

Missed the Timeframe & Outstanding:

  1. Establish an email list for the blog and have it functional by March.
  2. Create at least 1 blog post a month – This makes 6, so 3 posts behind.
  3. Have at least 1 blog post for each category by May – missed May, but we can shoot for the end of the year still!
  4. Obtain 2 new fitness certifications – Will not be accomplished.

Re-focusing on my blog did not happen. I really need to step up my game. I’m feeling a bit more motivated, so hopefully I can make some good progress before year-end!

Finance Goals

We are accomplishing our finance goals!

  1. Have $3,000 in accessible Savings by February 2020
    • Accomplished: February 5, 2020!
  1. Pay off all credit cards by year-end
    • Ongoing/Outstanding: current balance is $6,000. Not much improvement since Q2, but some improvement is better than none.

Daycare was back in full force again at the very end of June, which made a big impact on how much money was able to be allocated to debt. On a positive note, we did not incur more debt!

Health Goals

In Q2 I was able to make fitness more of a priority once the dust settled from the adjustment of working from home full-time. It was definitely an improvement in this area!

Goals:

  1. Crossfit: average 3x per week
  2. Lunchtime gym: average 2x per week
  3. Run: 1 mile per week
  4. Stretch: average 3x per week

If you’re into maths like me then:
3x a week on average equates to at least 156/year, 39/quarter, and 13/month.
2x a week on average equates to at least 104/year, 26/quarter, and 8-9/month.

Outcome:

  1. Crossfit: 91x
  2. Lunchtime gym: 29x
  3. Run: 31.48 miles
  4. Stretch: 85x

Again, lunchtime gym stats will be at a standstill for the remainder of the year unfortunately.

For crossfit I am behind by 26, hoping to pick this up in the last quarter of the year.

Unfortunately, my running goal has hit a stall, now that the Crossfit gym is actually open, my basement workout area has been neglected and so has the treadmill. I am 7.52 miles behind.

Stretching I am behind by 32 sessions! This is not good since there’s no reason I can’t accomplish this.

Family Goals

This goal is going the best!

Date Nights

July: My husband and I went to an outdoor comedy show hosted by the MMAS and we were joined by another couple. It was super fun! There were 3 comics and the opener was a guy around our age from the area we live in! After we went to Flynn’s for some burgers and beers.

August: This month was our 5-year anniversary! We went to the Fisherman’s View in Sandwich, which is right on the Cape Cod canal. It was a beautiful night with a great view! The food was delicious as always.

September: We took the week following Labor Day as a family vacation, and my in-laws were more than happy to watch our daughter while we went out. We went to Saco River Brewery, which was about 20 minutes away from my in-laws house in NH. The outside barn was awesome and the beer was very good! There was also a food truck there and we got a poke bowl and falafel wrap, which were awesome!

Total for the year: 8

Family outings:

July: We did Boulder Loop hike and I carried my 10-month for most of the hike! It was a great family hike with my in-laws and BIL and his girlfriend. My FIL ended up carrying Faye the last quarter because she was crying, so he practically ran down the mountain with her, haha!

August: This month brought a lot of beach days at my parents cottage in Bourne, so much family time with my brothers and their families, it was great!

September: Our family vacation at my in-laws in NH following Labor Day, we did some fun activities as a family. Our hike was Whitehorse Ledge and we walked around North Conway shopping and visited the public playground there.

Total for the year: 9+

Personal Goals

Still did not prioritize this. I definitely found myself scrolling on my phone at night or during down time, which is precisely what I was trying to prevent :/

Accomplished and On Track
Book reading

Outcome: 2 books read in January! Skill no change, eek…

  • “Scrappy Little Nobody” by Anna Kendrick
    • This book was such a fun read, I love Anna Kendrick, she makes me happy
  • “I’m Thinking of Ending Things” by Iain Reid
    • Such a good psychological thriller, I think I read this in under a week!

Missed the Timeframe & Outstanding:
Crafting

  • Finish 2 started knitting projects 1 by January 31, 2020 and 1 by February 28, 2020.
  • Stretch goal: knit 3 baby blankets. One of my SILs is pregnant and 2 of my friends are. That’s 3 preggos! 2 are due in June and one is due in May. Obviously my SIL takes priority and she is one of the 2 due in June.
  • Super stretch goal: knit an adult sized blanket for my SIL (my husband’s sister) to gift her at Christmas.

Trying to finish the book my friend gifted me and at least 1 knitting project. Ugh, eye roll…

I can’t believe the year is almost over! It is definitely flying by for me. Which is probably a good thing given the global climate.

We got a BIG surprise early in September, we are pregnant with a baby boy! This was so shocking considering to have our daughter we needed to go through IVF. I was actually getting ready to contact my doctor if I was not pregnant by the end of September!

Let’s discuss how this changed my goals. I shouldn’t have let this affect my running goal, but I was already slacking hard on it, so it’s not going to be complete for the year. The first trimester morning sickness and exhaustion definitely started to make getting to Crossfit so difficult and I would go to bed the same time my daughter did. All this extra sleeping also ate into my personal time, so unfortunately my personal time practically disappeared.

Only 1 more quarter to try and complete my goals! Let’s see what happens! Maybe a fire will be lit under my… behind…

Leave any updates for me or questions in the comments!
