2021 Goals: Q2 Update

Halfway through 2021!

Read my 2020 Goals here.

2nd quarter progress definitely slowed, but I anticipated that with my impending delivery. Very unwelcome, COVID-19 invaded our household, which I was not planning for. My husband, daughter, and myself all were infected. Thankfully, so far there are no lasting symptoms for any of us; but it was no treat being pregnant with COVID. Getting sick unfortunately kept me from the gym sooner than I wanted, and baby boy arrived exactly on his due date (I was banking on him being early like his sister, but no dice).

Keep reading to see how it’s going!

As always, I take the SMART goal approach.

What are SMART goals? Read my post for setting SMART goals here.

SMART is an acronym for:

Specific

Measurable

Achievable/Attainable

Relevant

Time-based

Here’s a quick run down:

S – the more specific the goal the better.

M – Quantify your goal.

Achievable/Attainable – be honest with yourself. You don’t have to accomplish every goal, but you should be at least close.

R – Choose something closely related to your ideals and appropriate at this time in life.

T – A deadline! Pick an actual date in the future on the calendar.

My goals encompass the following: business, finance, health, family, and personal.

Business Goals

My only goal in this category is to create a “side-hustle” with the help of this blog.
Status: Technically Complete
Deadline: 6/1/2021

Still no notable funds, but still hoping to ramp it up in the second half of the year.

I did gain an unexpected side hustle. I have been teaching a yoga class on Saturdays at my parents cottage community in Buzzard’s Bay. It’s been great! While it’s not super lucrative, I’m usually at my parents’ cottage every weekend in the summer so it’s convenient.

Finance Goals

  1. Payoff my Citizens Bank credit card. This card was roughly $7,000 by the time we paid it off. It was paid using our tax refund. It has remained at a zero-balance since early March!
    Status: Complete!
    Deadline: 6/1/2021
  1. Make additional payments to the car loan.
    Status: Not started, missed deadline
Deadline: Start additional payments no later than 6/1/2021

Health Goals

I still love the gym and want to make it top priority for the year.

  1. Crossfit on average 2x per week. I have dropped this from 3x in 2020 to 2x in 2021 to make up for my pregnancy time and recovery.
Status: Behind – 39 days total, missed by 13
We literally found out we were exposed to COVID-19 the day after my first and last workout of the quarter. It pretty much halted the gym for the month, then by the end I was feeling so big from my pregnancy so I wasn’t able to get any more workouts in. I was finally cleared to return to the gym June 26th, so I started fresh in July and reactivated my membership.
  1. Stretch on average 3x per week (yoga counts!).
Status: Behind – 69 days total, missed by 9

Math breakdown for these goals:
3x a week on average equates to at least 156/year, 39/quarter, and 13/month.
2x a week on average equates to at least 104/year, 26/quarter, and 8-9/month.

Family Goals

This goal went so well in 2020 and was the one goal I fully accomplished, so I’m going to keep it the same 🙂

  1. 1 date night a month – childfree
Status: 4 dates, behind by 2

    April – 0
    May – another goose egg
    June – Sushi 🍣
  1. 1 family event/outing per month
    Status: Ahead, 8!

April – We went to 1 swim class before the COVID-19 exposure
May – Friends’ cookout with my husband’s highschool friends and all their kiddos
June – (2) My niece’s birthday party & my mom’s birthday party. We also are constantly at my parents cottage enjoying the beach as a family 🙂

Personal Goals

Really downsized from last year’s epic fail. Only 2 in this category.

  1. Finish both started knitting projects
Status: On track, some more slight progress
    Deadline: End of year
  1. Read at least 3 books
Status: On track, but I have finished exactly 0 books
Deadline: End of year. Would have been 1 every 4 months, after Q1 it was 1 every 3 months, now the pressure is on with 1 book every 2 months – eek!

I really thought I was going to be able to crush my goals during my maternity leave. Boy, was I wrong (pun intended *wink*). The first 4 weeks following delivery I was out of commission, I look back and am a bit sad I lost almost a whole-ass month. Once I was back on my feet, I had both kids Mondays and Tuesdays as my MIL was taking a well deserved break from child-care before she is going to have 2 both days! Throw in daycare’s scheduled summer closing and a summer cold for Faye, and boy was it a lot! I’ve said it many times before and I’ll keep saying it, SAHMs are the real MVPs.

Hopefully, I’ll really be able to stay strong and get into a rhythm for some of these goals in the second half of the year!

Here’s a tidy list of all goals:

  1. Business Goals
    • Enhance blog and generate passive income
  2. Finance Goals
    • Pay off remaining credit card debt
    • Make extra payments to car loan
  3. Health Goals
    • Crossfit average 2x per week
    • Stretch average 3x per week
  4. Family Goals
    • 1 child-free date night with the hubs monthly
    • 1 family outing monthly
  5. Personal Goals
    • Read
    • Knit

If you made 2021 goals, or monthly goals, how is it going? Conquering or crushed under the pressure? Half the year left to make it happen!
