2021 Goals: Q3 Update
Where did the third quarter go?! I feel like I blinked and September was over!
Read my 2020 Goals here and let’s get to the Q3 update below!
As always, I take the SMART goal approach.
What are SMART goals? Read my post for setting SMART goals here.
SMART is an acronym for:
Specific
Measurable
Achievable/Attainable
Relevant
Time-based
Here’s a quick run down:
S – the more specific the goal the better.
M – Quantify your goal.
Achievable/Attainable – be honest with yourself. You don’t have to accomplish every goal, but you should be at least close.
R – Choose something closely related to your ideals and appropriate at this time in life.
T – A deadline! Pick an actual date in the future on the calendar.
My goals encompass the following: business, finance, health, family, and personal.
Business Goals
My only goal in this category is to create a “side-hustle” with the help of this blog.
Status: Technically Complete
Deadline: 6/1/2021
No notable funds, but I’m still plugging away and trying to determine my niche. I think I’m narrowing it down! So don’t be surprised if you see some changes 😉
My summer yoga led to the owner of my CrossFit gym asking me to lead practice there, it was an amazing surprise! I have been working hard to get the word out and get outside interest into the classes. By doing this the owner is comping my membership and we have an arrangement for any outside profits. So far the outside interest has been slow, but these things take time. I’m hopeful this can be a fun side hustle!
Finance Goals
- Payoff my Citizens Bank credit card. This card was roughly $7,000 by the time we paid it off. It was paid using our tax refund. It has remained at a zero-balance since early March!
Status: Complete
Deadline: 6/1/2021
- Make additional payments to the car loan.
Status: Technically complete, September
Deadline: Start additional payments no later than 6/1/2021
We paid off the Jeep and then traded in the Yaris for a 4Runner. While I wanted to enjoy life without a car payment for a while and I was sad to see my first new car and college graduation gift get traded off, we really benefited from having 2 cars that can accommodate 2 car seats. The convenience alone has been life changing and time saving!
Health Goals
I still love the gym and want to make it top priority for the year.
- Crossfit on average 2x per week. I have dropped this from 3x in 2020 to 2x in 2021 to make up for my pregnancy time and recovery.
Status: Behind – 76 days total, off track by 2 classes
So happy to be making up for lost time!
- Stretch on average 3x per week (yoga counts!).
Status: Behind – 109 days total, missed by 8
Math breakdown for these goals:
3x a week on average equates to at least 156/year, 39/quarter, and 13/month.
2x a week on average equates to at least 104/year, 26/quarter, and 8-9/month.
I’ll have to really apply myself in the last quarter to accomplish this! Not a bad thing with all the holidays 😉
Family Goals
This goal went so well in 2020 and was the one goal I fully accomplished, so I’m going to keep it the same 🙂
- 1 date night a month – childfree
Status: On track, 9 dates
July – 2, Dinner and a brewery & dinner
August – 2, Dinner dates
September – 1, a friend’s birthday party
- 1 family event/outing per month
Status: Ahead, 10!
July – 0
August – 1, Faye’s Birthday
September – 1, Labor Day in NH
We rounded out the summer still enjoying most weekends at my parents cottage enjoying the beach as a family 🙂
Personal Goals
Really downsized from last year’s epic fail. Only 2 in this category.
- Finish both started knitting projects
Status: On track, some more slight progress
Deadline: End of year
- Read at least 3 books
Status: On track, but still at 0, eek!
Deadline: End of year. Can I finish 3 books in 3 months? There was a time I could finish 3 books in 3 weeks! But, alas…
July brought some end of maternity leave blues, August I was back at work part-time, and after Labor Day I was full-time. While I don’t have school-age kids, I enrolled Faye in both gymnastics and swim for the school year, Saturday and Sunday respectively at 9AM. Time is just flying by and I feel like I’m constantly on the go. I know what you’re thinking – Jaclyn you did this to yourself. Yea, I did! Ugh. I just want it all: career, side-hustle, well-rounded family, a social life, a healthy body, and to feel self-fulfilled… Is it too much to ask?! Maybe.
Here’s a tidy list of all goals:
- Business Goals
- Enhance blog and generate passive income
- Finance Goals
- Pay off remaining credit card debt
- Make extra payments to car loan
- Health Goals
- Crossfit average 2x per week
- Stretch average 3x per week
- Family Goals
- 1 child-free date night with the hubs monthly
- 1 family outing monthly
- Personal Goals
- Read
- Knit
We are in the last months of 2021! I’m still processing 2020… How is 2022 less than 1 month away from this post? I don’t understand it.
If you need any encouragement I’m only an email away in the contact form!

You’re doing great! Congrats on keeping that credit card to a $0 balance!
