2021 Goals
I cannot believe it’s 2021! A whole year since I set up my blog and established my 2020 goals.
2020 was a learning curve for my goals for sure. I definitely had a dream big approach! The blog posts and updates kept me very accountable, but I still failed at almost all goals, whoops!
For 2021, I have scaled back on the goals for 2 reasons. 1. I only met one of my 5 goals wholly for the year and 2. I am pregnant. My pregnancy will unfortunately impact my time to focus on goals and my ability.
I like to follow the SMART goal approach.
What are SMART goals? Read my post for setting SMART goals here.
SMART is an acronym for:
Specific
Measurable
Achievable/Attainable
Relevant
Time-based
Here’s a quick run down:
S – the more specific the goal the better. Do not be vague. Umbrella goals usually do not succeed.
M – Quantify your goal.
A – Achievable/Attainable – be honest with yourself. You don’t have to accomplish every goal, but you should be at least close to accomplishment.
R – Choose something closely related to your ideals and appropriate at this time in life.
T – A deadline! Pick an actual date in the future on the calendar. Include checkpoints if you desire 🙂
For my goal categories I’m going to tackle business, finance, health, family, and personal.
Business Goals
I only have 1 goal in this category this year, but it’s a pretty serious one. I want to have a well established blog which also generates a bit of passive income. I’m not looking to give up my day job to be a blogger, but if 2020 showed us anything, it’s that one stream of income is one stream away from none. To assist with this goal I did sign up for a 4-month blog course by Taylor Stanford. Using her free 6-day blog course is how I initially set up my blog and it was a great guide and reference tool. The goal is this 4-month course will keep me accountable because there was an investment on my part and I do not want those funds to be wasted.
Deadline: 6/1/2021 – Giving myself a bit of leeway here to polish up all the loose ends
Finance Goals
- Payoff my Citizens Bank credit card. This card is hovering at $6,700. A combination of my debit card being frauded and buying Christmas gifts I didn’t want my husband to know about caused this card to creep up over $6k again. Hopefully, we can use our tax returns to eliminate this completely, but since I’m unsure how much we will really get back, I do not want to count on this to complete the payoff.
Deadline: 6/1/2021 - Make additional payments to the car loan. With our new addition coming along in May, we are going to need 2 vehicles that can handle 2 car seats. My husband rolls my 2008 Toyota Yaris, which is similar to a rollerskate. It’s not often we need to utilize the car seat in there, but it has happened and it’s basically all that fits in the car. It’s also a waste of time to switch cars every time someone needs to take the babe somewhere.
Start additional payments no later than 6/1/2021
Health Goals
I still love the gym and want to make it top priority for the year.
- Crossfit on average 2x per week. I have dropped this from 3x in 2020 to 2x in 2021. At about month 8 of pregnancy I will probably no longer be able to crossfit (basing this on how I felt in my last pregnancy) and then I will have to heal in postpartum, which will likely be about 6 weeks (again based on the last pregnancy and what my doctor approved).
- Stretch on average 3x per week (yoga counts!). I was very close to achieving this last year, so why not go for it again?
If you’re into maths like me then:
3x a week on average equates to at least 156/year, 39/quarter, and 13/month.
2x a week on average equates to at least 104/year, 26/quarter, and 8-9/month.
Family Goals
This goal went so well in 2020 and was the one goal I fully accomplished, so I’m going to keep it the same 🙂
- 1 date night a month – childfree
- 1 family event/outing per month
Personal Goals:
Last year I completely overestimated the amount of free time I would have as a working new mom. While the lockdown and the new found working from home did allow me more time without commuting, not having daycare for 3 months was definitely difficult. And sometimes at the end of the day I just wanted to zone out… I’m going to try and combat this again and succeed in personal growth and confidence. Read about my overconfidence here (😂).
- Finished both started knitting projects
- Read at least 3 books
Last year I only read 2.5 books. I figured 1 every 2 months, but it just did not happen. This year I’m aiming for 1 book every 4 months, I’m hoping this is a bit more realistic. I am still aiming to include 1 business/finance or self-help book!
Here’s a tidy list of all goals:
- Business Goals
- Enhance blog and generate passive income
- Finance Goals
- Pay off remaining credit card debt
- Make extra payments to car loan
- Health Goals
- Crossfit average 2x per week
- Stretch average 3x per week
- Family Goals
- 1 child-free date night with the hubs monthly
- 1 family outing monthly
- Personal Goals
- Read 3 books
- Finish knitting projects
I will be doing quarterly blog posts for updates on all my goals! I hope 2020 didn’t dim your shine, but if it did 2021 is a new year and we can start fresh with a different perspective on your present normal.
I’d love to read your goals in the comments or any input you may have on how you stay focused! If you have any other questions or want assistance with your goals, you can also reach out on the contact form 😉
