Natural Deodorant Review

Let’s talk about your pits!

Not the most attractive part of the body, but a necessary one.

You might be thinking about making the switch to natural deodorant (or at the very least aluminum-free), if you are you have come to the right place! I recently made the switch and I’m here to tell you (*in a non-sponsored post*) about my 2 new favorite deodorant brands.

I was a creature of habit when it came to deodorant & antiperspirant, buying the same 2 brands constantly. Usually buying the multipack at my wholesale club. I had tried a type of natural deodorant in the past and I hated it so much. I didn’t consider other options would be any different.

But, I was getting tired of my deodorant ruining my white shirts and I swear my armpits had a yellow color to them! Not cute. So, I decided to do some research. Aluminum is very bad, as I’m sure you’re already aware of.

Superficially, my main concern was not to be stinky, and I tried not to concern myself with the sweat factor. I probably asked my husband daily for weeks if I was stinky, and I would smell check myself often.

First, let me tell you about the brand I did not like: Tom’s of Maine

It constantly felt wet and slick, it was not for me. The most recent time I tried this brand was probably 2018. I have tried it a few times thinking I would feel different, but I just never did. I never felt dry and it was just an uncomfortable feeling.

This past Fall when my multipack was finally finished, I decided to try natural deodorant again. I was recommended Kopari from a friend, so I went to one of the big beauty stores and grabbed a 2 pack because it was on sale, and on a whim I also grabbed megababe also because it was on sale. I didn’t get as many personal recommendations as I imagined, most of my friends were still using the big name brands.

Reviews:

Kopari – Not one for fancy scents, I got the original.

Megababe – Again, I got what I decided to be the most basic scent, sunny pits.

These 2 products I found to be very much the same: both vegan, both coconut based, shaped the same, and had the same application feel. They look like they could be a gel, but it goes on more like a solid, and doesn’t feel wet at all. Most importantly, I did not feel like I was smelly at any point while wearing either deodorant! Even after a Crossfit workout, I was not smelly! Yasss!!

And the sweat factor? No more, no less than normal. Which is fine with me.

Price wise, they are very similar around $14 on average. Like most competitors, they go on sale at different times, so I’m happy to have a choice when I shop. I will likely be buying the one on sale at the time of purchase.

Bonus Purchase: megababe Happy Pits Underarm Mask

On my way to the check out I passed a megababe product placement stand and added the underarm mask to my basket as it advertised a detox for the underarms. I was not expecting to do this and it was a total impulse buy, but absolutely worth it in my opinion.

Switching to aluminum free deodorant can be a process of removing the toxins, and I figured any help would be great. I was pleased to see the reviews on the product were almost all 5/5 stars! Using the mask definitely helped speed up the process of detoxifying my pits. I would apply it before the shower for 5 minutes, so, so, so easy. Initially, I did this 2-3 times a week at first and then 1-2.

Overall, my underarms have lost that yellow tinge and I’m not seeing any developing yellow stains on the underarms of my white shirts! Absolute win on both fronts.

If you are thinking about making the switch, I say go for it with either of these. It’s great to have new healthy options for deodorant and I’m happy to have 2 choices I like!

I really want to try deodorant by humankind next, it’s refillable which reduces waste! It would be great to be using natural ingredients and be more sustainable.

I would love to hear about anyone else’s experience with natural deodorants in the comments!

I’ve been considering moving to a natural deoderant, mostly for sustainability purposes though. I hate the plastic waste of standard deoderant. Might try BAI-LI Natural Deodorant once my current deoderant expires, I never get through a whole container of the store brand kinds.
